Acting on credible information that migratory birds are being caught in Khoidumpat, members of Unique Wildlife Protection Committee went and inspected the place.
They apprehended two persons setting traps to catch the birds along with three nets used for setting the trap and one bird locally known as Cheklaobi.
The bird was set free on the spot since it was alive and the persons handed over to Kakching Forest Range Office to enlighten them.
Naorem Munal Singh the Forest Range officer of Kakching advised them regarding the penalties of such acts against the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 and informed them catching or killing migratory birds is an illegal act.
They were warned not to repeat such acts in future and were set free after taking their signatures stating that they will accept the penalties under the Act in case they are caught involved in such acts.
The Committee also condemned the attack on the forest staff who went to check on the cutting of trees in Waithou Reserved Forest and urged the Government to punish those involved.
