Imphal, December 02 2020:
The Kangla Social Welfare Development Association said the major violators of SOPs are passenger vehicles, especially auto rickshaws and sought the attention of the Minister who is in-charge of the Transport Department, on this.
In a statement, the association said, maintaining strict SOPs is a must to protect oneself from COVID-19.Though passenger service was allowed by the Government with proper maintenance of SOPs like 50% reduction in seating capacity for all passenger vehicles, none of the vehicles plying on various approach roads to Imphal market follows this.
They also charge double or triple times the normal fare citing the pandemic and pick up any passenger even if it means going beyond the limit mandated by the Government's SOPs.
The Traffic Control Police at Waheng Leikaihas also turned a blind eye to this, alleged the association.
Non maintenance of SOPs will only worsen the condition and the relevant authority should take up necessary action against violators of SOPs, added the association.
