Imphal, March 17 2013 :
To demand stringent punitive action against drug smugglers, destroy seized drugs in public view and complete CBI investigation within six months anti-drug campaigners are planning to take out a mass rally on April 7 .
speaking to newspersons at the Keishampat office of NIPCO today, CADA president A Rabindra demanded that the Government disclose identities and initiate punitive action against drug smugglers in the Tulihal Airport, Mantripukhri and Lilong seizure cases.
Demanding that the Government destroy illegal drugs seized from different places in full public view, Rabindra regretted that inspite of the State Cabinet's decision to hand over the drug seizure cases to the CBI there is no sign of the Central investigation agency starting the probe.
He also insisted that CBI complete the probe within six months in order to ensure arrest of all the drug smugglers at the earliest.
Affirming that besides the April 7 mass rally, CADA would intensify anti-drug campaigns in collaboration with other organisations, he also conveyed that anti-drug campaigners would submit memoranda to the Prime Minister and other Central leaders to take effective measures for checking drug smuggling.
Reacting to the arrest of the son of an MLA in the Pallel drug haul case, Rabindra proposed that a thorough investigation be launched to identify all those involved in drug smuggling.
NIPCO president Sunil Karam was also present at the media briefing.
Significantly the anti-drug campaign launched by a joint body of several Meira Paibi associations was suspended following assurances from the Chief Minister that things will be taken to its logical conclusion.
