Lamka, December 02 2011:
Close to the heels of various tribal groups demanding a separate administration, the Zomis in their winter get-together under the banner 'Sweet November' at SYO Hall proclaimed that an autonomous hill State within a State which reflected in Article 244A of the Indian Constitution would be the best option to solve the apex issue of discontented tribals.
Attended by various Zomi leaders comprised of intellectuals, church leaders, MLAs, Ministers, social workers, scholars and members of various Zomi civil society organisations, the concept of State within a State status was unanimously agreed.
The same demand has also been officially approved as a political demand of United People's Front, a signatory of SoO .
The resolution adopted on the occasion also alleged that the existing hill areas administrations in the State such as the Hill Areas Committee (HAC) under Article 371C and the Autonomous District Council Act 1971 are inadequate to protect the interests of tribal people.
The gathering has also made univocal decision to fully support the demand of UPF for creation of Autonomous Hill State.
