IG AR (S) Maj Gen Rajeev Chopra visits Ukhrul

Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) Maj Gen Rajeev Chopra today visited Ukhrul to take stock of the prevailing situation of the town.
He landed at Somsai, Ukhrul at around 9.30 am.
It may be mentioned that AR troops have been flag marching from their Somsai garrison to Ukhrul town to avert unwanted incidents in the aftermath of the eruption of violent confrontations with State security forces and Ukhrul denizens on August 30 which claimed two lives besides injuring many others.
Reliable sources said that IGAR (S) was briefed by DIG 10 Sector Commander Peeyush Pandey and 41 AR Commandant Gaurav Bose on the prevailing situation.
On seeing the peaceful atmosphere with AR troops patrolling on the streets and persuading Ukhrul denizens not to provoke violent confrontation, the IGAR (S) appreciated the two Commanders for upholding peace, added the source.
Although, tension erupted after August 30 rally, timely intervention of AR troops helped bring the situation under control.
Maj Gen Rajeev Chopra inspected and interacted with AR troops and advised them to maintain discipline saying that the town is still reeling under uneasy calm.
