Serious concern has been express-ed over lack of historical sense and regard for culture and tradition among the youths of Manipur.
Speakers at a book releasing function held at Shree Shree Abdaitya Prabhu Mandop at Bihnupur Bazar today urged the youth to take active part in preservation the cultural heritage of Manipur for posterity.
Retired IAS officer Elangbam Sonamani who was chief guest of the function lamented that the present generation and youth of Manipur lack historical sense and do not care much about traditional and cultural heritage of their forefathers.
This is very unfortunate, he said.
It is the youth who has to delve into and dig up the historical past of out forefathers, he said, exhorting the youth to play a pivotal in reconstruction of history of Manipur.
In his presidential address, president of Writers� Forum, Imphal Nongmaithem Tombi observed that Manipuri people should adopt a scientific approach in re-constructing their history and preserving the relics of the past for posterity.
It is the youth who have to shoulder this responsibility, he added.
A book written by Dr Jamini Devi entitled Khuroi Haora Lamlangtong and published by Writers� Forum, Imphal was released at the occasion.
Curator of Manipur State Museum Dr K Sobita Devi, retired head master of Aimol Kom Keirap High School Thiyam Jadumani and Art Director of Art and Culture Dr Sorojini Devi presented critical appreciation of the book and descri- bed as an important piece of history.
