Imphal, December 29:
The Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency MLA M Bhorot Singh charging the SPF Government for the artificial inundation of residential areas near the Capitol Project site and alleged lack of transparency demanded that private houses destroyed during eviction should be adequately compensated.
Speaking as chief guest in the First Neikanlong Day celebration at Neikanlong village along the Langol range foothills today, Bhorot iterated that the ruling front failed to provide any precise information during assembly session on exact size of land to be acquired for the Capitol Project.
In such a back drop the eviction drive launched by the Government at Chingmeirong and Thangmeiband areas for acquisition of the land for the proposed Capitol Project is highly questionable, said the MLA while highlighting of the project causing severe inconveniences not only the affected people, but also to the general people of the area.
Imphal Municipal Council councillor Thambaljao Phaomei and Neikanlong village chairman KG Gailalung graced the celebration as guest of honour and president respectively.
Village elder PG Dimthaomei recalling first permanent human settlement at the area in September 1971 said the name Neikanlong has been derived from the local dialect meaning 'facing sunshine throughout the day'.
Presently Neikanlong has 51 households with a total population of 324.
