Fatal Makhan-Maram accident Driver found using forged license

Chief Minister N Biren has ordered an enquiry after the driver of the Imphal-Guwahati bus which met with a fatal accident on March 27 between Makhan and Maram in which 12 individuals were killed and injured many, was found operating under a forged license.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, an official source pointed out that the incident came to light during an investigation by the Transport Department after Chief Minister N Biren directed the Chief Secretary to conduct a special enquiry to find out whether the cause of the accident was due to mechanical or human error and if the driver had valid and necessary documents.
During the investigation by the Transport Department it was found that the driving license and registration number belonged to a woman and the driver's photo and name had been pasted and written on top of it.
According to the official, the Chief Minister held a meeting with the Chief Secretary, DGP and officials of Transport Department today and ordered the DGP to conduct an enquiry regarding the case immediately.
He also pointed out that CID Crime Branch may begin investigation into forged driving license cases.
The Chief Minister further directed the Transport Department to launch a campaign to ascertain the authenticity of driving license of the vehicle owners of the State within a stipulated time.
The Department would also take up steps to promote smart card driving license for vehicle owners, he added.
