Imphal, July 15:
A meeting held at the Th Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound today resolved to conditionally oppose any move from the Government side to shift the Manipur State Kala Academy from its present location in Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
The meeting was convened by the JAC formed in the backdrop of the Government's announcement to shift the Academy office to an alternative site.
Members present decided to oppose the said plan until and unless requisite infrastructures are provided at the proposed new location which too had to be in such a place that could be conveniently accessed.
The meeting also expressed annoyance against alleged laxity in translating into action proposal for appointment of an Academy's secretary.
The demand was mentioned in a representation submitted to the Governor Dr SS Sidhu by the Academy on November 25, 2006.
Dr Sidhu, informed to be the Chairman of the Academy's General Council, had reportedly assured to look into the issue favourably but to no avail even after lapse of 7/8 months.
The JAC has also convened another meeting on July 22 to discuss future course of action in case its demand fail to evoke positive response
from authority concerned.
