Imphal, July 15:
Taking serious note of the alleged excesses of 21 Assam Rifles such as forcing male passengers to clear road side bushes, driving off farmers working in paddy fields and thrashing people indiscriminately at night and firing randomly, a public meeting was held today at Wabagai Lamkhai bazar today, conveyed a release.
The meeting attended by Meira Paibis of Keirak, Tejpur, Lamjao, Hiyanglam and Wabagai and presided by the AMKIL secretary Thasana Leima strongly condemned the act of beating the managing director and staff of Pari Imom Health Care by asking unrelated questions like where had the UG cadres gone etc on July 5 by AR troops while the random shots were fired by the AR troops themselves.
The meeting unanimously agreed to urge upon the Government to shift away the 21 Assam Rifles post from Keirak by July 19.It further resolved to call bandh along Indo-Burma Sugnu road and Mayai Lambi with effect from 6 pm of July 21 till 6 pm of the next day in case their demand is not fulfilled by the deadline set.
Another unanimous resolution adopted during the public meeting was to launch a massive and extensive people's movement all over the State if there is any more case of human rights violation by security forces, added the release.
