22nd Conference of Parties begins

Marrakech, November 13 2016:
The UN's 22nd Conference of Parties (COP 22) began at Marrakech, Morocco, Africa, on November 7 .
The conference is organised by the United Nation Framework Convention for Climate Change (UNFCCC) and participating 192 countries.
Many international negotiations on climate change mitigation and adaptations amongst the countries will be debated during these 12 days I.e.7-18 Nov 2016 .
On the fifth day of COP 22 (November 11), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) hosted a session on "innovation to enhance climate actions at sub national level" at the Indian pavilion of COP22 .
Shambhu Singh, Additional Chief Secretary (Forest and Environment), Government of Manipur, was one of the distinguished panelist of the session.
Additional Chief Secretary Shambhu Singh and Dr Brajakumar, Deputy Director, Directorate of Environment, Manipur, are attending the conference as Indian delegates.
Dr Brajakumar made a presentation on, ""Carbon neutral eco-village in the Himalaya ecosystems : blending traditional and modern adaptation practices" during the session followed by a 3 minutes video on 'Model Carbon Positive eco-model activities at Phayeng' .
The participants of the session were impressed by the concept developed for implementing the climate change adaptation activities through communities by integrating line departments and local experts in Manipur.
Reacting to questions from audience in the panel discussion Shambhu shared the positive experiences about the way the ongoing practices in Manipur for climate change adaptation actions like forming of different layers of committees at administration level, sectoral working groups at Governmental executors level, many sub-committees at field working group level mainly with the communities, etc.
