The Manipur Government is said to have urged the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to attend the proposed ceremony of handing over the sacred Kangla State authorities after the Assam Rifles shifts to its new base at Maha Koireng.
According to official source, the PM has been intimated to extend his visit upto Imphal to attend the ceremony when he arrives at Guwahati to flag off the India-Asian Car Rally scheduled for November 22.Informing that Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh had personally conveyed the matter to the Prime Minister when the former had visited New delhi recently, the source also stated that hectic parleys are on at the congress party level in extracting positive reply from Manmohan on the matter.
It also disclosed that the Prime Minister was urged to either visit Imphal a day ahead of the Car Rally or after the flagging off ceremony while adding that no firm commitment has been furnished by the Prime Minister's Office till date.
