Imphal, June 20 2012:
Defying the general understanding of water and oil and their unsuitability to form a mixture, water was detected in fuel at BB & Co oil pump located at Sangaiprou today.
Some people including a Police Inspector filled their vehicles with diesel at the oil pump.
But when they came out from the oil-pump, most of the vehicles could not get started and some other vehicles whose engines were already on died out on their own.
Surprised by the sudden break-down of vehicles, some people opened oil-tanks of their vehicles and much to their amazement and fury, they were able to see a separate layer of water.
They promptly lodged complaints with relevant authorities.
Soon a team of Special Investigating Unit arrived at the oil pump and examined diesel being pumped to customers.

The team also observed water in diesel.
Immediately, the oil-pump was put under siege and it was prohibited from selling diesel any further.
Police immediately relayed the matter to the IOC and the relevant department.
Some BB & CO staff said that the diesel was unloaded at the pump yesterday.
Presence of water in the diesel might be due to leakage in underground pipe-line connected to storage tank or technical flaws in the storage tank, they said.
A late report received from police informed that the storage tank was checked again together with IOC officials and it was found that the unnatural mix-up occurred as diesel was unloaded into the tank without checking its water level.
It is also reported that the oil pump would be allowed to resume business from tomorrow.
