Perseverance always pays, says State AIPMT topper

Kangabam Alex and Rhonda Latsaheb secured the first and second positions in the merit list of AIPMT successful candidates of the State.
Results of the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) were declared today.
K Alex is the eldest son of late Kangabam Iboyaima and Kangabam (O) Leima of Sega Road, Khwairakpam Leikai.
Talking to The Sangai Express on his spectacular performance, Alex said one should not be disheartened just because he/she belongs to a poor family.
Perseverance always pays, he asserted.
The topper said that he used to study five to six hours a day.
The study schedule was stretched to 10 to 12 hours during examination time.
He said that he endured a lot of difficulties in pursuing formal education because of poverty.
With the house roofs leaky, the house got flooded when there was little rainfall thereby creating much inconveniences in studying.
He advised young students to set a target, chalk out a reading schedule and strictly adhere to it.
He also conveyed gratitude to the teachers of COMET.

His mother Leima was in tears of joy.
She said that she struggled hard for Alex's education after his father died.
She used to earn the family's livelihood and other expenses by weaving clothes.
But whatever amount she earned could not meet the family's expenses.
Then she started working as a domestic helper since about a year back.
"I'm really proud of my son's success but at the same time I'm at my wits' end thinking about the money required for studying medical course", Leima said.
Alex secured 15th position in Class X exam and in Class XII exam, he scored 82.5 per cent mark.
In this year's AIPMT, Alex scored 508 marks out of the total mark of 720 .
Second position holder Rhonda Latsaheb said that there should be passion and enthusiasm if one must understand what he/she is studying.
Speaking to this reporter at their Heirangoithong Ningthoujam Leikai, Rhonda said that there is no specific period for reading.
"I study in the morning, evening and at any time if I feel the urge", she said.
Stating that she would study hard to become a qualified doctor, she confided that she would open a private clinic and serve the public.
Rhonda's father Dr Latsaheb said that parents should never force their children into professions or study courses for which the children have no passion.
Disputes and tiffs between fathers and mothers should not be allowed to have their impacts on the young minds of their children, said the proud father.
Rhonda Latsaheb is the second daughter of SSB Commandant and Orthopedic Surgeon Dr Latsaheb and Potshangbam (O) Sharmila.
Rhonda was the topper of Tezpur Army school in class X.She scored 88.4 per cent marks in class XII and 499 marks out of 720 in the AIPMT.
