Manipur hits century with 32 new cases

Manipur saw the highest spike in 24 hours with 32 more testing positive for COVID-19 and taking the total tally to 121 .
The 32 cases were detected in the last 24 hours at RIMS (Regional Institute of Medical Sciences-8) and JNIMS (Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences-24), Porompat.
The State now has a total of 83 COVID-19 active cases currently in isolation wards of RIMS and JNIMS.
It may be noted that the State is seeing a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases since it started evacuation missions to bring back stranded natives affected by the lockdown from cities across India.
Significantly all the cases detected till now in the State are returnees.
Of the 19 cases detected last night, four are from Tengnoupal, three from Senapati, two from Ukhrul, four from Tamenglong, one case each from Bishnupur and Churachandpur district, one from Thoubal and one from Kamjong and two from Kakching.
Eight cases were detected at RIMS and 11 were detected at JNIMS.
Four including the cases from Bishnupur-1, Churachandpur-1 and Tamenglong-2 (first two cases) are returnees from Chennai while the three from Senapati had returned from Mumbai.
The other four from Tengnoupal had returned from Delhi.
In a late evening information from the State Health Department, 13 new cases were detected at JNIMS.
Out of these, 5 are from Kangpokpi, Churachandpur-2, Tengnoupal-3, Chandel-1, Bishnupur-1 and Imphal West-1 .
Their conditions are stable and they are under strict surveillance.
Health authorities are monitoring their health, said sources.
Following the detection of the cases, the district administrations concerned have taken up containment measures.
Meanwhile, the State's recovery rate has improved to 35.18 percent with 12 patients (JNIMS, 11 from Churachandpur and one from Imphal East) discharged today from JNIMS after they tested negative.
The total number of recovered cases has reached 38 .
Containment Zone: On the other hand, Bishnupur district Deputy Commissioner Neeta Arambam has declared Hostel Block of JNV (Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya), Bishnupur as containment zone and sealed off the area including staff quarters of the institution, playground, paddy field around the institution.
An order of the Deputy Commissioner mentioned that the four cases, of the 13 detected yesterday, including two from Tamenglong and one each from Churachandpur and Bishnupur, had been under quarantine at the institutional quarantine centre opened at the JNV.
Tengnoupal district administration and police have also ramped up containment and preventive measures in the district following the detection of four cases.
The four including a female, all aged between 25 and 29, "had returned from Delhi via train and they had been staying at the quarantine centres opened at Langol and Moreh since May 30 .
Ambulance of Moreh hospital evacuated them to Imphal from the centres at around 7 am today.
Containment areas including Forest IB and Electricity Guest House are under strict surveillance.
