Imphal, June 13:
In a move that can strain relationships, NDA partner Samata party, today described the recent report of the government of India showing its readiness to extend the NSCN(IM)-government of India ceasefire to Manipur as a Himalayan blunder on the part of the government of India.
State Samata Party in its first conference after the fall of the Radhabinod Koijam ministry and attended by its bigwigs including George Fernandes, Jaya Jaitley and General Secretary Sambhu Saran Shrivastava today expressed strong concern over the possible outcome of the extension of ceasefire saying that the ramifications of it will be frightening.
Appreciating the sentiments of the people, the resolution also pledge to preserve the territorial integrity of the state.
The Samata Party resolution is significant in the wake of the recent row with its partner BJP over the fall of its government in the state.
State Samata Party leader and former chief Minister also made scathing attacks on its partner both in the centre as well as in the state.
Apparently attacking the former speaker and the present BJP MLA, H.Borbabu, the resolution said the post of the speaker has been misused by unscrupulous individuals which led to the row between the state judiciary and the legislature during the 1990 and leading dissidents against the state government to topple them.
Maintaining that such outcomes were a result of the abuse of the speakers office the party resolution also decided to re-look into the anti-defection law and into the roles of the speaker there under.
It would also draw the urgent attention of the Lok Sabha Speaker and the commonwealth Parliamentary Association to the need to lay down a clear code of conduct of speakers.
Putting the law and order and insurgency in its top agenda, the conference among others resolved to fight drugs and HIV, to bring social ethnic harmony, reviving political morality, to go by the aspirations of the people, strengthening district administration under a transparent and effective and responsive government, empowerment of women and employment of youth.
The draft economic resolution adopted by the party today include fiscal management, reduction of effects of law and order in the economy, making expenditure match with resources, bringing IT revolution in the state including setting up of an Indian Institute of Information Technology centre at Imphal.
