Governor Ved Marwah has urged the Panning Commission as well as the union finance ministry to provide adequate financial and infrastructural assistance towards formulation and implementation of a �special development package� for the strife �torn state of Manipur.
Sources in New Delhi said Ved Marwah who called on the deputy chairman of the Planning Commission, KC Pant, in New Delhi yesterday had detailed discussion s abut issues relating to the financial problems being faced by the state, fiscal reforms and planning a development of Manipur.
During the discussion, the Governor urged the deputy chairman and the secretary (expenditure) in the ministry of finance to provide all possible financial and infrastructures of a special development package for Manipur so as to enable the state to overcome the prevailing financial crisis.
Marwah also sought the Centre�s guidance to help solve the deep fiscal crisis being face by the State.
Earlier, the Governor, who is shouldering the responsibility for the state�s administration after imposition of Central rule in the state June 2 last, called on the President, R K Narayanan, at 6 pm on June 11 at the Rashtrapati Bhavan and apprised him of the prevailing situation and uphill tasks of the central administration.
As regards the present law and order situation in the state, governor had detailed discussions with Union Home Minister L K Advani when he called on the latter late yesterday afternoon.
During the meeting, the Governor apprised the home minister of a series of security and administrative measures being taken up in the state after promulgation of President�s Rule.
The new administration, the Governor informed, has initiated a number of steps to streamline and tone up the government machinery and efforts are being made to take up various welfare measures for the people particularly in the remote and for-flung areas.
He said the people of Manipur are expecting something good and looking forward to receiving positive results in regard to law and order and the financial crisis in particular.
During the short stay in the Capital, the governor also had important discussions on various matters relating to Manipur with higher authorities of various ministries including Central security and intelligence establishments.
