Imphal, September 08 2012:
Strange it may sound but certain portions of the newly constructed retaining wall of Takhelkhong (also known as Khongman Turel) has moved towards the canal after a pile of mud was heaped on the other side bordering road.
Speaking to media persons this morning, Oriental Club, Khongman Mangjil secretary A Prakash said that the contractor and labourers were asked to construct the retaining wall with due emphasis on its qualitative aspect since the very beginning.
But they never paid any heed and constructed the retaining wall in the most casual and sub-standard manner.
That was why, the concrete wall moved when a little pressure was exerted.

The retaining wall moved towards the canal yesterday near Kite Mandop Service, Bamon Leikai.
It has been four months since the retaining wall construction work began.
Mud used in filling the gap bordering the road should be done with shingles or stones, he said.
Takhelkhong is a very important canal for Wangkhei, Bamon Leikai and Khongman.
All these areas are drained by Takhelkhong before it falls into Imphal river.
The secretary sought immediate attention of PDA and the concerned authority towards the farcical construction work.
