No respite to poor show of Govt schools, none in merit list

The dismal performance of Government schools continues unabated with not a single student from these schools making it to the merit list of the top 25 position holders, though in a welcome change, schools located outside Imphal have done creditably with eleven students making it to the top 25 spot.
A student of CH Thambou High School, Thoubal, Takhellambam Micheal Singh outscored his colleagues from Imphal to secure the third position in the HSLC 2007 examination, for which result was announced today.
The result this year saw a marginal improvement over the last few years with the pass percentage pegged at 52 pc, in contrast to the dismal 39 pc and 40 pc recorded respectively in 2005 and 2006.Mission schools were at the helm again with the top position going to a student of Nirmalabas School.
The topper is Khumanthem Diana Devi who managed to secure letter marks in seven subjects.
The second position went to Satyaam Takhellambam of Brighter Academy.
Though Little Flower School drew blank in the first three position, it nevertheless walked away with the lion's share in the top 25 positions with nine of its students making it to the list.
Catholic School, Canchipur followed with 5 of its students in the top 25 position holdeRs The other schools located outside Imphal and which made it to the merit list included Bethel English School, Nambol with its student Sapam Pradeep School securing the 7th position with letter marks in six subjects.
Antartic English School, Yairipok followed close behind with one of its students, Konthoujam Priyananda Singh securing the 8th position with letter marks in six subjects.
Kshetrimayum Nirupama Devi of Padma Ratna English School, Kakching came in at the 16th position securing letter marks in five subjects.
Another student from the same school, Naorem Ranju Devi secured the 18th position with letter marks in six subjects.
A student of Little Master English School, Samurou Ahongshangbam Robertson Singh secured the 17th position with letter marks in six subjects.
Deepika Singh of Froebel English School, Kanglatombi also came in at the 18th position with letter marks in seven subjects.
Pukhrambam Suraj Singh of Loktak Christian Model High School occupied the 20th position with letter marks in five subjects.
Khundrakpam Chingkhu High School, Khundrakpam also featured in the top 25 spot courtesy its student, Amarjit Wangkheirakpam.
Kh Jayanta of KM Blooming English School, Khangabok secured the 23rd position with letter marks in five subjects while Jocyline Thokchom of Khongjom Standard English School, Khongjom secured the 24th position with letter marks in four subjects.
Boys did better than girls notching up a pass pc of 63 in the regular category while girls scored 49 pc in the same category.
