Imphal, June 04:
While the people of the State are yet to come over the shock of the kidnapping and subsequent murder of Muheni Martin and Hrinii Hubert, another abortive kidnapping drama was enacted in Senapati district last night.
Two little girls, just 10 years old, were saved from possibly meeting the fate of Muheni Martin and Hrinii Hubert by road construction labourers near Karong at about 10.30 pm.
The two girls are identified as Adaphro and Horiizii.
Adaphro is a Class I student of Don Bosco School while Horiizii is a Class student I of Senapati High School.
Chairman of the now dissolved Fact Finding Committee Solomon Vieno said that they strongly condemn the kidnap attempt and added that this latest incident testifies the insecurity of children in Senapati.
Government should look into this, he added.
Quoting the labourers, a police source informed that two unidentified persons were walking along with the two girls in a suspicious manner.
Seeing the reluctance of the girls to accompany the unknown persons, the labourers waylaid and questioned the duo near Karong.
Rather than giving any specific answer, the duo fled from the scene leaving the two girls there, conveyed the source and added that one of the two spoke Manipuri.
The two girls belonging to Senapati district headquarters were brought to the road side makeshift tent of the labourers before they were handed over to their respective families today morning.
Since the two girls do not belong to affluent families, the kidnapping attempt might have motivated by trafficking purpose, noted the source.
However, it is reported that the victims' families have not lodged any complaint on the matter with police.
