UNC welcomes MHA move on 3 Bills

Senapati, November 10 2015: Considering the demand of tribal civil bodies and subsequent decision of the Government of India to consult "all stakeholders" before the final assent to be given on the three Bills already rejected by tribal communities, United Naga Council (UNC) has welcomed the move by Ministry of Home Affairs.

A statement by UNC lauded the "seriousness" of the Centre to intervene into the matter.

The Council also reminded the Government of Manipur that, as witnessed in every part of the world, people's democratic movement "will triumph over any oppressive or bullet policies" .

Attempting to thwart any anti-Naga move by the State Government, the UNC warned that Nagas at any cost will protect its political aspirations/interest, identity, inalienable rights, land, people and vowed that the council was determined to achieve without compromising with "oppressive forces" .

UNC stated that the move of the Union Government to reach out to the tribal people before granting the final assent on the three "infamous Bills" already rejected for their "anti-tribal agendas" is a step towards resolving the present socio-political turmoil in Manipur.

The council said it has been strongly advocating the involvement of the Government of India to address the genuine issues of the tribal people in Manipur.

Slamming the State Government, UNC stated that the "hegemony of the present O Ibobi led Congress Government" over the interest of the tribal communities was aimed at suppressing the long pending "aspirations of the Nagas and tribals" .

UNC reminded that that State Government has been resorting to "inhuman and brutal misuse of State forces in repressing any tribal issues" and cited the killing of two persons at Mao-gate on May 6, 2010; the Ukhrul incident on August 29, 2014 when two more were killed and the recent Churachandpur incident where 9 persons were killed by "trigger happy government forces" .

The UNC also mentioned that the Nagas in Manipur have also resolved to fight back against the alleged "anti-Naga" resolution passed on August 31 in Manipur Assembly.

Under such circumstances, the tribal people and Nagas of Manipur are aware that that State Government is playing "a divisive" role, said UNC.

The council asserted that the tribal community in Manipur will not bow to the destructive policies of the government but struggle together and achieve the aspirations of the tribal people.

UNC also appealed all the tribal communities to stay united and fight collectively till the common aspiration is achieved.
