Kangpokpi CHC tops

Kangpokpi, August 28 2019: The Community Health Centre, Kangpokpi (upgraded to district hospital) has been included among the top 5 best health centres in the State and the top in the entire hill districts, reports our correspondent.

Meanwhile, PHC Saikul (already upgraded to CHC) and PHC Motbung both under Kangpokpi have achieved the first and second place among the top 5 PHCs in the entire hill districts of the State.

According to the recent announcement by the health department, CHC Kangpokpi/district hospital Kangpokpi has been selected among the top 5 CHCs in terms of OPD, IPD and emergency and the topmost in the entire hill districts.

The PHC/CHC Saikul and PHC Motbung have been selected for its service in OPD and IPD.

The overall top 5 CHCs are CHC Wangoi, CHC Nambol, CHC Moirang, CHC Kakching and CHC Kangpokpi.

For valley districts, CHC Wangoi, CHC Nambol, CHC Moirang, CHC Kakching and CHC Yairipok emerged as the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th ranked centre respectively while for hill districts, CHC Kangpokpi, CHC Mao, CHC Nungba, CHC Parbung and CHC Chakpikarong held the position the top spots.

On the other hand, the overall top 5 PHCs are PHC Oinam, PHC Leimapokpam, UHC Singjamei, PHC Samurou and PHC Kumbi.

For hill districts, PHC Saikul, PHC Motbung, PHC Noney, PHC Komlathabi and PHC Tadubi are the top 5 PHCs.

These health centres in Kangpokpi district have been functioning under heavy limitations and various challenges in terms of manpower, infrastructures, facilities and others, reports our correspondent.

Only 8 Medical Officers have been posted at the hospital till date with only one Senior Medical Officer, one Gynaecologist while other specialists are not present.

On the other hand, out of eight sanctioned post for nurses, only five nurses are serving at the hospital.

With regard to the National Health Mission, the office has been running without Block Program Manager and Block Finance Manager till today.

In terms of facilities at the hospital, there is no OT service and although, Ultrasound machine is available, there is no manpower to operate the machine apart from the absence of kitchen services for in-patients.

The health authority and the public have urged the Government to extend the OPD room as the number of patients are rapidly increasing with time and also to look into the matter including labour room extension, waiting area at in-patient department, drainage at OPD and IPD, repairing of the hospital, especially GCI roof and walls, renovation of toilet at both IPD and OPD.

The public have further demanded sufficient manpower, urgent creation of MGEL post sanction for district hospital, construction of CMO office, availability of Ultrasound services.

PHC Saikul was upgraded to CHC 2 years back but no new posts have been created and no improvements have been made regarding the infrastructure till date.

Inspite of performing well in all health parameters, the PHC/CHC Saikul is functioning without a single ambulance which is causing immense grievances to poor patients.

On the other hand, the new building is under construction for almost 4 years and is yet to be completed.

However, despite of all limitations and hurdles, PHC/CHC Saikul, with the collective and persistent efforts of the has bagged the achievement.

It also won the Kayakalp Best PHC Award of Kangpokpi district and PHC/CHC Saikul also became the highest achiever amongst the health centres in Kangpokpi.

Meanwhile, the number of institutional delivery is highest in Kangpokpi in the year 2018-19.It is also the only targeted health facility for National Quality Assurance Standards Certification programme by the State Health Department from Kangpokpi district and PHC/CHC Saikul health authority are taking up necessary preparations to become the first NQAS Certified health centre and one of the few NQAS certified health centres in the State.

Regarding PHC Motbung, there is sufficient manpower till date but the facilities are no less than other health centres of the district for which immediate attention is required.
