International look mooted for Sangai fest

The first meeting of the Culture and Indigenous Games Sub-Committees of the coming Sangai Festival (which will be held in November) was convened at the office of the Art and Culture and Sports Commissioner today afternoon.
A source mentioned that officials and members of the two sub committees were present in the meeting which was chaired by Art and Culture and Sports Commissioner Bobby Waikhom and during the meeting, it was resolved to allow cultural troupes of Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Japan and Cambodia to take part in the Sangai Festival, apart from the cultural troupes of other States of the country.
The meeting further resolved to hand over the responsibilities of managing the cultural troupes of the hill districts of the State to the respective District Commissioners, the source informed, adding that a sub-committee was also constituted today to select the cultural troupes which will be participating in the festival.
Stating that a Muay-Thai team from Thailand will also take part in the festival, the source mentioned that preparations are being made to showcase indigenous games of Manipur like Polo, Kang and Mukna during the festival.
The source continued that MMTA will take the main responsibility when it comes to adventure sports and added that the second meeting of the two sub committees will be held on September 7 .
