Writers' Day 2013 celebrated

Imphal, July 17 2013: Along with presentation of Writer of the Year Award, 2013, Writers' Day 2013 was celebrated at Dave Literature Centre here today.

The celebration was organized by Naharal Sahitya Premee Samiti Imphal.

Prof..HBihari Singh, Convener Manipur Advisory Board Sahitya Academy New Delhi and Prof.Polem Nabachandra, President Naharol Sahitya Premee Samiti Imphal attended the function as Chief Guest and President of the function respectively.

During the function, "Writer of the Year Award 2013" was presented to renowned dramatist Naorem Kalimohon Singh.

Sahitya Akademi Translation Awardee Elangbam Sonamani Singh, Sahitya Akademi Awardee Prof Jodhachandra Sanasam and Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar awardee, 2012 Ranjita Konthoujam were also felicitated on the occasion.

Giving the key note address of the function, A. Balkrishna Sharma, Vice-President of Naharol Sahitya Premee Samiti, said, "Writers are taking a great role in the revolution of a society.

We should not forget the contributions made by Rabindranath Tagore and Bankim Chandra Chatterjee during the Indian freedom struggle.

We are also proud to claim Manipuri as a classical language because of the rich tradition of writing maintained by our forefathers" .

The celebration was attended by many renowned writers and prominent personalities of the state including Padmashree Ratan Thiyam.
