Ukhrul, July 17 2013:
Ukhrul Autonomous District Council has raised opposition to the proposed plan of the Govt to give away Choro village of Ukhrul district to Myanmar in exchange of land at Moreh in Chandel district.
In the light of the reported move of the Government, the Ukhrul ADC Chairman, John Raleng has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding to save and protect Choro village of Ukhrul district.
The ADC Chairman's memo pointed out that Choro village is a hill house-tax paying village inhabited by Manipuri Indians within Ukhrul district since time immemorial which was also wisely saved during the Kabaw valley gift to Burma.
The ADC chairman urged the CM to save the village considering all historical facts associated with the village and for the sake of peaceful coexistence of Choro villagers who shared brotherhood with other inhabitants of the district.
