Imphal, July 17 2013:
Taking serious note over the unlawful and ruthless attitude shown by personnel of 22 AR led by one Major Ajay Kanti inside Jiribam Police Station yesterday, Jiribam Police lodged an FIR and forwarded a written statement to the SP of Imphal East conveying to serve notice to AR authority to effect arrest of Major Ajay Kanti.
A tussle broke out between the AR personnel and Jiribam police yesterday over the arrest of Seinio Guite alias James Kuki (29), General Secretary of UTLA, by the latter.
According to a highly placed source, the AR Major has been charged of interfering in the duty of the police, forceful entry into the Police Station and misuse of his service gun.
An FIR has also been taken up against James Kuki for extortion from the public, lobbing of bombs and threatening the public.
He has been remanded to police custody for 10 days after he was brought before the Judicial Magistrate, Jiribam Court today.
According to police reports, the arrest of James Kuki could not be made just on suspicion.
He has been arrested after all proofs of his involvement in looting the public, lobbying bombs and threatening the public have been ascertained by intercepting his mobile phone.
He was called up by the police by disguising as another individual to whom James Kuki had made monetary demands at a specific area and busted him on the spot.
There was no chance for James Kuki to escape from the charges leveled against him as he was caught red handed while taking the money.
The report further revealed that AR authorities have been promoting the cadres of UTLA and using them to extort money from the public and create chaos in Jiribam which otherwise has remained peaceful because of the efficiency of the police.
But fearing that the masks over their faces would be revealed, the AR personnel tried to overpower Jiribam Police and take away James Kuki.
With the news of the incident spread far and wide, top officials of AR have been compelled to give an explanation to the Home Ministry about the arrest of a top leader of UTLA who is in the custody of AR, by Manipur police, the source added.
