Society denounces order on staging Nupilan Leela

Imphal, December 09 2022: Nupilan Khongjom War Memorial Society has denounced the State Government's order directing only Nupilal Memorial Association, Tera Keithel to put up a performance of the 'Nupilal Leela' on December 12 .

It may be noted that in previous years Nupilan Memorial Association, Tera Keithel and Nupilan Khongjom War Memorial Society have both staged performances of the said play.

Speaking to media persons during a press conference held today at Manipur Press Club, Th Kombirei, vice president, Nupilan Khongjom War Memorial Society shared that 'Nupilan Leela' had been declared a State play by the Government and Nupilan Khongjom War Memorial Society had performed it since 1999 .

However, both Nupilan Memorial Association, Tera Keithel and Nupilan Khongjom War Memorial Society began putting up separate performances of the play as directed by a 2002 State Government order, Th Kombirei added.

When the Society received information that performance of the play will resume from this December 12 onwards after a hiatus of two years due to the pandemic, they began preparations in earnest.

However, the recent Government order has only brought discontent to the artistes, she maintained.

She stated that Nupilan Khongjom War Memorial Society will not accept the directions of the order and urged the relevant authorities to refrain from sowing seeds of discord between the two groups.

She also appealed to the Government to either allow both groups to stage 'Nupilan Leela' performances or disallow both from performing the play.
