Even as one non-local was awarded the capital punishment for selling banned items, another non-Manipuri was shot dead today at about 5.10 pm at Ningthou Leikai located about 1 km north from Kakching bazar.
According to police sources the deceased is one Anil Sahu (32) son of (L) Birbal Sahu of Bihar.
He was staying at a rented room at Kakching and eked out a living mobile selling his wares on a bicycle and was shot dead at his rented room, said police sources.
The deceased was hit by three bullets on the face.
The body has been retrieved by the police for the necessary post mortem.
In yet another incident, a 22 year old youth was shot at his leg today at about 7.40 pm by about five unidentified gunmen.
The impact of the bullet shattered his right leg.
The injured youth is identified as one Md Akbar alias Ibungo son of Abdul Latif of Irong Chesaba under Imphal police station.
He was shot near the verandah of his house, said sources.
The injured youth has been admitted to RIMS hospital.
Sources said that the attackers may have used heavy guns.
Grenade attack
A hand grenade hurled by unidentified persons exploded in the Kongpal Kongkham Leikai residential compound of Pheiroijam Rajendro (54) who works as AO (Chemistry in Agriculture Department at around 6.30 am today.
There was no report of any injury in the attack.
However, a scooter kept in the compound suffered some damages by the bomb splinters.
In protest against the attack, womenfolk of Kongpal Kongkham Leikai staged a sit-in demonstration today.
Blast condemned : All Manipur Judicial Officers' Association and All Manipur Bar Association have strongly condemned the grenade attack at the residence of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal RK Memcha Devi by unidentified persons at around 5 pm yesterday.
No clarification has been issued in connection with the bomb attack.
