Unidentified gunmen shot dead a youth, who was a former member of the proscribed KCP, while he was sleeping in his own bed at Heirok Heituppokpi Part-I under Thoubal Police Station at around 2.30 am today.
The slain youth has been identified as Ningthoujam Raja (27) s/o late Ningthoujam Selungba of Heituppokpi Part-I.According to the family members of the slain youth, Raja was a member of the proscribed KCP and had been arrested by the Gurkha Regiment posted at Wangjing some seven years back.
After his release, Raja got married, fathered a son and started leading a normal life.
However, when his son was around 2 years old, Raja separated from his wife.
After that he had been dealing in carpentry work to eke out living and not having connection with any underground organisations.
At around 2.30 am today, five-six persons clad in camouflage uniform came to the house in a van and called from outside, 'Mother,
it is us.
We want to drink water'.
Hearing that Ibemhal, mother of Raja opened the door.
However, while she was going to fetch water, the unidentified persons went straight to the room where Raja was sleeping and fired several rounds at him killing him on the spot.
As the son of Raja was sleeping with one of his uncles at the time of the incident, he did not suffered any injury.
Police have recovered six empty cartridges of AK-47 Rifles and one camouflage cap from the site of the crime.
Thoubal Police Station have registered a case and body picked up for post-mortem which was conducted at Lilong PHC.
There were bullet marks on his head, temple, neck, chest and stomach.
In connection with the killing, a JAC has been formed and raised the demand for clarification on the killing from all concerned.
As the family members and the JAC have refused to take back the body until the clarification being sought is furnished, police have deposited the body at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital.
