A commando team of Imphal East district police deployed at Lamlong Bazar area apprehended four PREPAK activists this evening and recovered a 9 mm pistol with a magazine and three live rounds from the possession of the one of the arrested persons.
A statement issued by the Imphal East district SP L Kailun identified the four as Ningthoujam Chaoba alias Thengra alias Sanjoy (27) s/o N Mangiyaima of Nongmaikhong Mayai Leikai, Bachaspatimayum Rajesh Sharma of Nagamapal Laimayum Leirak, Salam Shantikumar alias Angang (23) s/o S Subhi of Laphupat Tera and Mayengbam Lalit (21) s/o M Bihari of Tera Lukram Leirak.
The arm and ammunition is informed to have been recovered from N Chaoba, who also disclosed of joining the PREPAK organisation in 2002 (Army No 1264).The SP also detailed that Rajesh Sharma joined the outfit in January this year, S Shantikumar in December 2006 and M Lalit in February 2007.The four were actively involved in extorting from fish centres of Imphal areas under the command of one Jackson of Patsoi, added the statement.
Five bodies taken: The bodies of Ningthoujam Mangalsana and Yaikhom Angam, both residents of Yourbung Mamang Leikai who were shot dead by unidentified gunmen near Yendangkon Eyam Khong under Lamlai Police Station on the night of October 21 have been taken away by their respective families after post-mortem at RIMS mortuary today.
The body of the alleged Betel leaf seller Prashad Jha (32) of Chakrami village, Nagpur district of Bihar but was staying in a rented room at Ningthoukhong who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Upokpi under Bishnupur Police Station last night has also been taken away by his family members after post-mortem at RIMS mortuary today.
Meanwhile, along with identification of the remaining suspected underground activist out of three of them shot dead by a combined force of 34 Assam Rifle ad Thoubal Police Commandos during an encounter at Serou T Minou village under Tengnoupal Police Station on October 17, the body has been handed over to his family members today.
The deceased was identified as Md Jamir Ahmad (20) of New Khairaband, Lalpat, Jirighat.
After the demise of both his parents, Jamir was reportedly working in a workshop at Dimapur for sometime before he went missing.
