Kh Ram Narayan Memorial State Level Chess : H Somokanta takes lead with 7 straight victory

Rated player Haobam Somokanta entered into the 8th round of the 7th Khuraijam RamNarayan Memorial State Level Open Chess Tournament 2025 with 7 straight victories.
Somokanta carried forward his tactical superiority in the tournament and took the pole position beating Kongjengbam Poireikhomba and Taorem Chitaranjan today in the 6th and the 7th round matches.
Somokanta will now play N Dhaneshwor who defeated Sadokpam Premjit in a 7th round clash today to amass 6 points.
Sanjoy Khumukcham also kept his title hopes alive by beating Oinam Ningthem today to gather 6 points in 7 rounds.
Taorem Chitaranjan had earlier in the 6th round beaten L Shakespeare to collect 5 and 1/ 2 points as Elangbam Sashikanta who had beaten Naoremcha Yoihenba in the 6th round, played out a draw with Kongjengbam Poireikhomba in the 7th round to come to level terms.
Thoudam Dayanand was also on 5 and 1/2 points as he beat Longjam Kenedy in a 7-round clash.
The players who secured wins in the 7th round to accumulate 5 points include Naoremcha Yoihenba who beat H Jogendra, L Shakespeare who beat Maibam Einstein, Huidrom Bhupendra Nath who beat Khoirom Bikramjit, Rajkumar Angamba who beat Chabungbam Dinesh, RK Sudhirsana who beat Moirangthem Williamba, Elangbam Jeakson who beat Irom Bit, Moirangthem Modhusudon who beat Kh Rocky, Hijam Deepak who beat Thoudam Jalesh, Moirangthem Sanjit who beat Maibam Dorendro and Ph Rajen who beat Sinam Lawrence.
Meanwhile, the players, who are struggling with 4 and 1/2 points after 7 rounds include Elangbam Mangal, Sadokpam Premjit, H Jogendra, Longjam Kenedy, Prichard Elangbam, Nandeibam Jonex.
The 9-round tournament, being underway at the campus of Ram Lal Paul Higher Secondary School, will conclude tomorrow.
