7th Khuraijam RN Memorial Chess heats up with surprise performances in Round 6

The 7th Khuraijam Ram Narayan Memorial State Level Open Chess Tournament 2025 continued with its sixth round on Sunday.
The headline match of the round featured Konjengbam Poireikhomba Meetei (IRtg 1878), who entered the game with a perfect 5/5 score, facing off against H Somokanta (IRtg 1780), also unbeaten with 5 points.
On board 2, Shakespeare L (IRtg 1933) with 4 points took on Taorem Chitaranjan (IRtg 1870), who held a slight edge with 4.5 points.
Further down the order, Sanjoy Khumukcham (IRtg 2064) faced RK Sudhirsana Singh (IRtg 1713), with both players tied at 4 points.
In another closely contested match, H Jogendra Meitei (1726 IRtg) took on Sadokpam Premjit Singh (2026 IRtg), with the two players also locked at 4 points apiece.
The tournament has seen its fair share of surprises, with unrated players making their mark.
Longjam Kenedy Singh, despite having no official rating, held his own against Lemba Sougajjam (IRtg 1522), with both players entering the round with 3.5 points.
Another notable performance came from Elangbam Jeakson, an unrated player who matched Konsam Jiban (IRtg 1676) with 3 points each.
The lower boards were no less competitive, with players like Moirangthem Sanjit Singh (unrated) and Naorem Ojit Meitei (IRtg 1650) battling fiercely to climb the standings.
Meanwhile, Tejbir Thiyam and Khundrakpam Borish Singh, both unrated, demonstrated their resilience by securing 2.5 points apiece.
