TRAU, NEROCA set for Imphal Derby in Durand Cup Group F opener
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, July 29 2025: Local heavyweights Tiddim Road Athletic Union FC (TRAU FC) and North Eastern Re-Organising Cultural Association FC (NEROCA FC) are set to clash in the highly anticipated 'Imphal Derby' as Group F of the 134th Indian-Oil Durand Cup kicks off on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at 4 pm at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.

All 43 matches of this year's Durand Cup will be broadcast live on the Sony Sports Network (Sony Ten 2 HD) and streamed via the SonyLiv OTT platform.

NEROCA FC, led by head coach Gyan Moyon, head into the match with recent form on their side, having edged past TRAU 2-1 in their most recent I-League 2 meeting in April 2025.Their other encounter in the same season ended in a 1-1 draw.

Founded in 1965, NEROCA have been a trailblazer in North-East Indian football and hold the distinction of being the region's first club to reach the Durand Cup final.

Despite their relegation from the I-League in the 2023-24 season, the club retained Moyon and have since undergone rigorous preparation for this campaign.

TRAU FC, under the stewardship of head coach Saran Singh, will be eager to avenge that recent loss and begin their Group F journey on a strong note.

Established in 1954, TRAU have been a mainstay in Manipur's footballing landscape, with multiple state league and CC Meet titles to their name.

Nicknamed the Red Pythons, they will rely on their grit and local experience to overcome their city rivals in this high-pressure opener.

The fierce rivalry between NEROCA and TRAU has delivered several memorable contests over the years.

Together, the two sides boast 21 major trophies - 11 for TRAU and 10 for NEROCA .

Since 2020, NEROCA have dominated the head-to-head record with seven wins from eleven meetings, while TRAU have secured two victories, and two matches have ended in stalemates.

However, derby matches often defy form and history, and both sides know that momentum on the day will be key.

Group F also includes the Indian Navy Football Team and Real Kashmir FC, promising a highly competitive battle for the knockout stage.

Only the six group winners and two best second-placed teams will advance to the quarterfinals, placing added pressure on both Manipur sides to make a winning start.

The return of the Durand Cup to Imphal has ignited widespread excitement.

The trophy tour on July 10 attracted enthusiastic crowds and widespread media coverage, underlining the tournament's significance to the local football community.

A passionate turnout is expected at the Khuman Lampak Stadium, promising an electric atmosphere befitting this historic encounter.

With pride, bragging rights, and vital points on the line, both TRAU FC and NEROCA FC will be determined to start their Durand Cup journey with a win.

The Imphal Derby, steeped in rivalry and tradition, is set to deliver yet another enthralling chapter in Manipur's rich footballing history.
