Hockey: Dominant Manipur register back-to-back wins at Sub-jr nationals

Imphal, July 29 2025: Manipur continued their impressive run in Pool B of the 15th Hockey India Sub-Junior Men's National Championship 2025 (Division B), securing emphatic back-to-back victories over Telangana and Andhra Pradesh at the MRHS Pitch 1 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

In their second pool match on Tuesday (July 29), Manipur delivered a commanding 10-0 thrashing of Hockey Andhra Pradesh, with Manimatum Maibam stealing the show by netting six goals.

The state team showcased attacking flair and ruthless finishing, with goals coming at regular intervals.

Manimatum proved unstoppable, firing in four quick goals - opening the scoring in the 11th minute, doubling the lead in the 17th, and adding two more in the 20th and 25th minutes.

Lisham Max Singh then made it 5-0 in the 34th minute before Manimatum completed his six-goal haul with strikes in the 35th and 38th minutes.

Max added his second in the 48th minute, while Waribam Vishal extended the lead to 8-0 .

Yaiphaba Thounaojam then capped off the rout in style with a late brace (53', 56') .

Andhra Pradesh managed a consolation goal through Hussain Syed Jakeer in the 58th minute.

Earlier, in their opening match on July 28, Manipur outclassed Telangana 7-1, with Vishal and Singh each scoring twice.

Vishal set the tone early with a 2nd-minute strike, before Konthoujam Sanjit Singh (14') and Thounaojam (18') made it 3-0 .

Thounaojam added another in the 23rd minute, followed by Ningombam Gerik (28') and Vishal (34') before Thounaojam sealed the win with his second.

Telangana's lone reply came via Gautam Harsh Kumar in the 45th minute.
