1st Major L Jyotin Memorial Inter-Batch Football Tournament concludes at RIMS

The first edition of Major L Jyotin Memorial Inter-Batch Football Tournament organised by Regional Institute of Medical Sciences Students' Union (RIMSSU) at RIMS ground came to a close today.
The tournament commemorate the legacy of Major L Jyotin and celebrated the spirit of sportsmanship and unity among the students of the prestigious medical institute located in Lamphel.
Notably Major L Jyotin was an officer in the Army Medical Corps of the Indian Army, who died fighting a suicide bomber during the attack on the Indian Embassy in Kabul in 2010 .
The closing ceremony was attended by Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS as chief guest and Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS as functional president, said RIMS Media Cell in a press release.
Speaking at the occasion, Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma emphasized the importance of sports in building discipline, teamwork, and resilience among students.
He also said that dedicating the tournament to the memory of Major L Jyotin was a beautiful way to keep his legacy alive.
In his presidential speech, Prof N Sanjib, lauded the efforts of the organising team and appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the students.
He remarked that it was heartening to witness the passion and energy of the students and such initiative contribute immensely to the holistic development of future healthcare professionals.
The final match of the tournament saw BDS team edge 2024 Batch by 2-1 goals in a thrilling encounter, the release said.
The event concluded with prize distribution and a note of thanks to all participants, supporters, and organisers who contributed to the success of the tournament.
The event stood as a fitting tribute to Major L Jyotin, inspiring students to uphold values of courage, unity, and excellence, it added.
