CHAMP beat REYS by 14 runs to advance into quarter finals

CHAMP, Khagempalli defeated REYS, Nagamapal by 14 runs today to emerge Group B winners and seal the quarter final berth of the ongoing 2nd MCA Luwangpokpa T-20 Trophy organised at Manipur Cricket Association at Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium, Luwangsangbam.
KIYC, Kshetri Iril Mapal also registered a 14 run victory against CDC, Sagolband in a Group A league match played earlier.
In the first match (Group A) of the day, KIYC won the toss and posted a total of 96 runs for the loss of three wickets in 15 overs.
KJYC's Nishikanta was prolific today as he hit a half century (56) off 46 balls he faced to enable his team set a respectable target.
Aden and Bung of CDC were able to pick up one wicket each before they saw their own team paying the price of appearing late (their innings reduced to 12 overs only).
Bung (24 runs), Dijiraj (23 runs) and Robin (10) batted well for CDC in the chase that ended 14 runs short of the target (82 run total) at the cost of 4 wickets.
Had they reached the venue on time, they could have easily seal the victory and a place in the quarter finals.
Abdullah and Anish claimed two wickets and one wicket each in this innings to help KIYC seal a 14 run victory.
Nishikanta of KIYC was declared man of the match.
The second match was rather more entertaining as it was a clash for group (B) winners between REYS and CHAMP.
CHAMP, Khagempalli took off the game positively stacking up a commanding 143-run for 8 in 20 overs through fine batting performances from Arpit Rao (29), Gulson (20), Kazim (20) and Langlonyamba (20) .
Krishnakant of REYS bowled well in this innings and claimed 3 wickets while Jackychand and Jayenta picked up two wickets each before Dhiraj dismissed one wicket.
In response, Shashikanta made a brave effort hitting a total of 39 runs off 40 balls but their team slumped to 129 runs total as the bowling attack of CHAMP led by Thomas and Kenedy proved disastrous to them.
Thomas picked up a handful of 4 wickets while Kenedy were quick in scalping 3 wickets.
Kabir then dismissed two wickets while Nikhil claimed one wicket.
Thomas was adjudged man of the match for his four wicket haul.
CYCLONE will meet REYS in the first quarter final match tomorrow at 9.30 am while PTRC will lock horns with TRAU in the second quarter final match at 1.30 pm.
