9 vehicles stolen from Kolkata recovered in Manipur

A joint team Anti Vehicle Theft Team (AVTT), Manipur and Anti Motor Theft Squad Detective Department, Kolkata, has successful recovered 9 four wheeler vehicles which were stolen from Kolkata, from different parts of Manipur.
This was stated by K Meghachandra, SP Imphal East, during a press conference held at Imphal East SP conference hall today.
Displaying the recovered vehicles before media persons, the SP said that as requisitioned by the Anti Motor Theft Squad Detective Department Kolkata on July 6, AVTT Manipur led by Additional SP Traffic Imphal East M Roni along with personnel of the police stations concerned, recovered the stolen vehicles from different parts of the State.
Till date, the joint team has managed to recover 9 four wheeler vehicles in a series of raid.
The recovered vehicles include 2 Maruti Alto car, 2 Ford Figo Aspire, 1 Maruti Alto K -10 car, 1 Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, 1 Hyundai Eon, 1 Honda Amaze and 1 Maruti Alto 800, which were all reported missing in different police stations of Kolkata in between February and March this year.
The SP added that investigation is still underway to recover other stolen vehicles and to nab the culprits or members of the vehicle lifters gang.
Speaking to media persons, the SP highlighted that AVTT Manipur was constituted on February 3 this year in view of the frequent loss and theft of vehicles in the State and the use of such stolen vehicles in committing a number of crime.
The team, in co-ordination with Motor Vehicle Department, has been carrying out verification of lost and stolen vehicles as well detecting reregistration of already registered vehicles.
During such a short period of time since its intitialisation, AVTT Manipur has also managed to arrest some vehicle lifter and recover stolen vehicles from different parts of the State.
He informed that on February 20, at around 2 pm, on receiving information about the presence of some vehicle lifters in and around New Checkon area, a team, of AVTT rushed to the spot and conducted search operation and arrested one Phudreimayum Kurban Khan (24) s/o Ph Mustakim Khan of Phudrei Makha Leikai along with a stolen Activa.
During preliminary interrogation, Kurban revealed that he received the seized Active "which was stolen by one Md Nasir Khan some six months back.
On February 22, AVTT Manipur led by M Roni, then DSP (CAR) Imphal East, arrested a vehicle lifter HM Farid (23) s/o (L) Ayajuddin of Lilong Mairenkhul along with one Maruti Alto from Lilong bridge.
During preliminary interrogation, Farid revealed that he along with his associate identified as Md Nasir of Lilong Mairenkhul and others, are involved in stealing two wheelers in and around greater Imphal area by using the Alto car which was seized by the AVTT.
It was revealed that they were also involved in stealing a Honda Activa from Singjamei Waikhom Leikai on February 21, and another Honda Dio from Thongju Boroi Makhong on the same day.
On March 26, AVTT Manipur recovered one Mahindra XUV 500 which was found abandoned in Nongren Chingnungkhok area.
The vehicle was reportedly stolen by some unknown individuals from JNIMS crossing on March 12 .
The SP further said that on April 5, a complaint was lodged stating that a Honda Active 3G, without registration number, had been stolen by some unknown persons from near Advance Hospital afld soon after.
the complaint, AVTT coordinated with the IO of the case and conducted search and frisking operation at some suspected areas.
During the course of time, on May 29, at around 7.30 pm, one Abdul Wahid (22) s/o Md Abdul Manal of Lilong Ushoipokpi was arrested along with two master keys.
On preliminary interrogation, Abdul Manal revealed that he was,involved in the theft of the Honda Activa from near Advance Hospital.
The SP continued that on June 10, at around 4 pm, a combined team of AVTT and Singjamei PS, arrested one Md Zarkariya alias Saroj (20) s/o Wahidur Rahaman of Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai and seized one Alto car (which had a West Bengal registration number) from Kakwa Asem Leikai near Ibochou oil pump.
The arrested individual revealed that he was involved in the theft of one Honda Activa 3G from Kakwa Sorokhaibam Leikai and the security team also seized numerous tools which were used for breaking the lock and stealing different vehicles, the SP added.
In such a short period of time, AVTT in coordination with the respective police stations have recovered a large number of stolen vehicles and arrested the involved persons as well.
The team is working hard to crack the modus operandi of some of the gangs involved in the racket in coordination with other States'as well.
The SP further appealed to the public to extend cooperation to prevent such vehicle thefts and not to consider buying any vehicle with heavily reduced price tag being sold in the State and informed the people to buy vehicles only after seeing the proper documents and knowing the genuine owner of the vehicle.
He continued that those who buy the stolen vehicles can also be awarded penalty for receiving the stolen properties.
He also appealed to the public to provide necessary assistance to the AVTT.
