Imphal, July 10 2018:
The Federation of Central Universities' Teachers' Association (FEDCUTA) secretariat held a meeting today and appealed to Visitor (President of India) to immediately institute an independent enquiry into the charges of misgovernance, pending which VC Prof AP Pandey must be sent on leave.
The FEDCUTA secretariat during its meeting held today took note of the ongoing crisis in Manipur University where the students have been on strike for more than a month demanding resignation of Vice Chancellor Prof AP Pandey for gross dereliction of duty and blatant flouting of all financial and administrative rules and norms.
All the sections of MU community represented by MUSU, MUTA and MUSA have endorsed the demand, it noted.
All Deans and Heads of Departments have submitted their resignation in solidarity with the agitating students, teachers and staff.
MUTA has already written to the President of India highlighting the grave financial and administrative irregularities, including appointment to non-existent posts and vindictive denial of promotion to a large number of teachers by making illegal changes in the due process, said a press release issued by FEDCUTA.
Expressing complete solidarity with MUTA as well as other sections of the MU community, FEDCUTA appealed to the Visitor (President of India) to immediately institute an independent enquiry into the charges of misgovernance, pending which the VC must be sent on leave.
FEDCUTA also strongly condemned the brutal lathi charge on a peaceful assembly of students who had gathered outside the Chief Minister's office for his intervention.
It also appealed to Governor Dr Najma Heptulla who is also the Chancellor of Manipur University to intervene into the crisis besieging the university and ensure that normalcy is restored.
