Imphal, July 10 2018:
Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) has banned a Class XI MIL textbook 'Apunba Manipur Wareng Sheireng' prescribed by Council of Higher Secondary School (COHSEM) for trying to create a link between the history of Manipur and Mahabharat.
Speaking to media persons at KSA office at Keishampat today, its president N Chetan said that the attempt to connect the history of Kangleipak with a story like Mahabharat, which may or may not be true, is an attempt of misguide the students of the State.
He explained that from page 69 to 81 of the MIL textbook, Basanta Bahara-Acttal written by L Ibungohal Sharma, it is mentioned that Chitranggada, the mother of Brabubhohon and the wife of Arjun, is the daughter of a Manipuri king, which is an insult to the people of Manipur.
This act is a Hindu centric attempt to misguide the future generations of the State, he alleged.
Manipur which is mentioned in the Mahabharat is a place located between the hills of Anga (Bihar), Banga (Bengal), Kalinga (Orissa) and Mahendra Pravad and not Manipur.
The contents of the said textbook which is prescribed to the Class XI students are an attempt to create historical and cultural confusion, he alleged.
Claiming that the step is akin to ethnic and cultural genocide, Chetan said that KSA has banned the textbook in the interest of the people.
Appealing COHSEM, Education Minister and Commissioner to look into the matter at the earliest, he warned that if the authorities concerned fail to take up necessary action, KSA along with the people will launch various forms of agitation.
