Imphal, July 10 2018:
MUSU, MUTA and MUSA have categorically asserted that there is no PRO office in the Manipur University Act and hence nobody has the authority to issue statements to the press in the name of the PRO office.
However, there have been two PRO statements in as many days which manifested the alleged already proven incompetence of Vice Chancellor Prof AP Pandey, said a joint press release issued by MUSU, MUTA and MUSA.
Instead of vacating his position, Prof Pandey has the audacity to issue unsigned statements to the press warning the university community.
As uninformed as he is about the University Act, Prof AP Pandey has assumed himself to be the authority of the university while the University Act classifies Vice Chancellor as one of the officers.
It is this ignorance which gave him the false courage to put a statement in the public domain that holding of meetings of statutory bodies is not mandatory.
As someone who hardly stay in station and never attends office in time while in station, it is almost ridiculous for Prof Pandey to claim as someone thinking for the welfare of students, said the three MU bodies.
Pointing out that Prof Pandey is encircled by security personnel all the time, they ridiculed Prof Pandey's claim that he is committed to the cause of academics.
While there is no PRO office in Manipur University, he issued press statements under the name of PRO office.
As no inanimate office can ever have the capacity to put any signature whatsoever, the two recent statements were made by unsigned PRO office, it remarked.
Appealing to VC Prof Pandey not to drag the Governor and the Chief Minister in his ignoble PRO office statements, they maintained that it would be more prudent for Prof Pandey to immediately discontinue his disrespect to the people of Manipur and vacate his position to save the wastage in maintaining him at the Sanjenthong quarters without the university getting anything in return.
Meanwhile, a separate press release issued by MUSU has asked if the Government shares any concern for the academic career of thousands of students of Manipur University and colleges affiliated to it.
Decrying that the Government has been condoning VC Prof Pandey, MUSU asked whether Prof Pandey is more important to the Government than all the students and the people of Manipur.
It is rather shameful that Chief Minister N Biren spoke many things unbecoming of a public leader during a meeting with representatives of MUTA, MUSU alleged.
Questioning whether the Government authorities would remain silent had the 41 days old Manipur University crisis happened in another State of the country, MUSU urged the Governor, the Chief Minister and other authorities concerned to stop watching but act.
The students' body urged the authorities to shed their disposition of bartering the fate of the entire State and its students for some political and other benefits from the Centre.
The Governor and the Chief Minister must see that the crisis is resolved at the earliest and Prof Pandey should stop intimidating the teachers, staff and students of Manipur University, MUSU said.
Time for Prof Pandey's arrogance to go for he has been rejected by the entire university community and it would be best for all concerned for Prof Pandey to vacate his position.
While all academic and administrative activities of Manipur University have been stalled for 40 days, Prof Pandey has converted his quarters into PRO office and has been' issuing ridiculous press statements.
Even if the State Government tries its level best to push back Prof Pandey to MU at the instruction of the Central Government, the university community will never cooperate with him, MUSU asserted.
All the staff and teachers who have been staying together with Prof Pandey at the latter's quarters should never come back to Manipur University for they have declined the appeal to leave the VC's quarters and come back to the university by 1 pm today, it Said.
It further appealed to all the CSOs, student bodies, clubs, Meira Paibis and guardians to help resolve the Manipur University crisis.
