IDP medallist Khaidem Jenim returns to warm reception

Khaidem Jenim, an internally displaced wushu athlete, returned to a warm reception by the relief camp managing committee of Sugnu Khaidem Leikai at Indoor Stadium, Kakching today as he brought home a silver medal from the 24th Junior National Wushu Championship held at Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad.
Khaidem Jenim, son of Khaidem Inaobi of Sugnu Khaidem Leikai, bagged the silver medal in the Wingchun event at the said championship that was held from July 1 to 6 .
Speaking to this correspondent, silver medallist Khaidem Jenim said that he had zero knowledge about Wushu before the 2023 communal clash but was strongly attracted by the discipline when his family and others had to take shelter at the indoor stadium.
He also credited his success to his mentor Pebam Thoibi who was there for him at every step.
He also thanked the managing committee of the relief camp for their unwavering support.
Speaking at the occasion, father of Jenim said that the people of Sugnu, Serou and other peripheral areas affected by the communal conflict continue to suffer till today.
The responsibility of these parents who are now rendered homeless grew manifold, he said while highlighting the hardships of internally displaced persons.
He also drew the attention of the State Government to work out a special scheme to cater the needs of internally displaced children in all possible ways.
Notably, Jenim had earlier won a gold medal in the previous year's edition of the Championship.
