State Polo Tournament : K&MM RS see off Meiraba PC in 7-6 thriller, AR edge out KRYPHSA 6-3

Imphal, January 30 2020: K&MM Riding School see off Meirba PC 7-6 as W Johny scored golden goal lately in the last minute of the fifth chukker in a nip and tuck first round clash of the ongoing 36th Men's State Polo Tournament 2020 at Mapal Kangjeibung today.

Meiraba Polo Club had a promising start and led the first chukker 2-0 but K&MM RS stole the show in the fourth chukker to draw level before clinching the winner in the fifth chukker.

L Mocha and K Rishikumar had a goal each in the opening chukker to ensure Meiraba PC the comfortable lead.

I Sachindra who replaces Ch Pradeep Singh in the second chukker pulled back a goal for K&MM RS but L Mocha and L Dhaneshor added a goal each to keep Meiraba PC ahead with a 4-1 lead before W Johny of K&MM RS added another to make it 2-4 till the end of the second chukker.

Ch Ajit Singh keep the competition alive as he scored a goal for K&MM RS in the second minute of the third chukker while L Lukhoi extended Meiraba PC's lead to 5-3 with his first goal.

W Johny too had his second goal in this chukker and reduced the gap before Lukhoi struck his second to give K&MM RS a 6-4 lead.

The game however took a dramatic turn in the fourth chukker as W Johny added his third goal and M Homen added another to make it 6-6 and eventually forced the game to be decided via golden goal in the additional chukker (5th).Both teams saw their chances miss in the exciting additional chukker and after exchanging few runs, W Johny hit his fourth in the last minute of the chukker and finally sealed his team a second round berth.

The day also saw AR Polo team send KRYPHSA out of tournament with a 6-3 thumping.

Raiyakat Ali and Th Soshanta shone with two goals apiece in AR's victory today as Kh Suhilo and Kh Chandrakumar added a goal each.

Riyakat Ali scored all his two goals in the opening chukker for AR to make it 2-1 as H Ranison pulled back a goal for KRYPHSA.

KRYPHSA made their way back into the game with L Olympus making a fine effort count in the second chukker but AR Polo team took full control of the game in the third chukker by pouring in 4 goals through Kh Sushilo (1), Th Soshanta (2) and Kh Chandrakumar (1).After trailing 2-6 till the third chukker, KRYPHSA toiled hard to reduce the gap but ended up only with a goal scored by H Chalamba in the last chukker.

Samadon Ayangba will play Khurai PC in a second round clash tomorrow at 1 pm while Paradise Polo Club will take on ESC-C in a first round clash latter at 2 pm .
