Imphal, January 30 2020:
Saying that the State is still engulfed by corruption, CPI Manipur State Council secretary L Sotinkumar has alleged that the ever mushrooming numbers of petrol pumps and buildings etc are proof of this fact.
He made the claims during the 73rd birth anniversary observation of Mahatma Gandhi which was organised at Irawat Bhawan today under the aegis of All Manipur Nupi Marup (AMNM) and left parties.
He claimed that even though the State leaders are shouting that there is no corruption in Manipur, the scale of corruption is increasing day by day.
Sotinkumar alleged that those in the BJP led Government are all working in the interest of those with big pockets and corporate which are overflowing with money.
If one says anything against them, he or she is jailed, he added.
Sotinkumar mocked the way in which the IRB recruitment test was conducted and opined that conducting the exam in such a way (in a crowded stadium and making the candidates write some words dictated through a loudspeaker, and that too after taking money for so called recruitment, is pitiful to look at.
Speaking about the issue of the street vendors of Khwairamband Ima Keithel, Sotinkumar explained that there is already a Supreme Court order which says that a Government cannot shoo away street vendors before taking up some other alternative arrangements.
The Government is unable to even comply with an order given by the Supreme Court, he alleged adding that the State Government has completely failed to solve the street vendor issue even after such a long time.
On the other hand, speaking about the death of Mahatma Gandhi at the hands of Nathuram Godse, Sotinkumar claimed that Nathuram Godse was an RSS cadre.
Mahatma Gandhi believed in unity and equality and realising that him remaining alive would be a thorn to the idea of a Hindu Rashtra, Nathuram Godse assassinated Gandhi, he said.
It is unfortunate that RSS and BJP are trying to build a statue of Nathuram Godse, who killed the father of the Nation, Sotinkumar opined.
He also strongly condemned Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019 and labelled it a threat to democracy and secularism.
CPI Manipur State secretary Ksh Shanta, AMNM president M Sakhi and leaders of other left parties were also present during the event.
