Woman killed in hit and run case; locals poise to impose indefinite bandh on NH-102

Following the hit and run incident that killed a woman at Khangabok yesterday, the locals staged a sit-in today and cautioned that they would impose indefinite bandh on NH-102 from tomorrow if the culprit involved is not caught.
The deceased woman has been identified as Moirangthem (o) Manjuri (57), w/o late M Ibopisak of Khangabok Awang Bangshibudhon Leikai.
She is survived by five children.
The incident happened at around 5.30 yesterday on NH-102 near KM Blooming Higher Secondary School.
She was walking with her bicycle when an unknown speeding vehicle knocked her down and fled the scene.
She died immediately on the spot, said sources.
The sit in staged at Khangabok Awang Leikai BYC Ground formed a joint action committee and has taken several resolutions.
The JAC Against the Brutal Killing of M (o) Manjuri (57) Devi by Unknown Vehicle Khangabok will be imposing indefinite bandh along the NH 102 from 4 pm of January 31 if the culprit involved is not nabbed, it said adding that the family would not claim the body until the culprit is arrested.
Khangabok Zilla Parishad Member Kh Rajmohon and BJP Manipur Pradesh former vice-president Thokchom Jadumani visited the protesters and the latter extended a sum of Rs 30,000 towards the surviving family members.
SP Dr S Ibomcha also visited the protest site to maintain law and order.
Meanwhile, the JAC has also demanded authorities concerned to install CC TV cameras at Wangjing Out Post and Thoubal PS areas.
Khangabok Part-I GP Pradhan N (o) Mala Devi, BYC Khangabok president L Surjit and club members took part in the sit-in.
