Konjengbam Poireikhomba and H Somokanta secured fifth straight wins to spice up the title race in the 7th Khuraijam Ram Narayan Memorial State Level Open Chess Tournament 2025 being underway at Ram Lal Paul Higher Secondary School campus.
H Somokanta got the better of L Shakespeare in the fifth round match today as Konjengbam Poireikhomba beat Naoremcha Yoihenba to register their fifth win on the trot.
Meanwhile, Taorem Chitaranjan extended his unbeaten run in five games by beating Huidrom Bhupenda Nath to amass 4 and 1/2 points.
10-players also kept their hopes alive by securing four points in five rounds including Rajkumar Angamba who beat Dayanand Thoudam, who had been unbeaten in four rounds; Khumukcham Sanjoy who beat Konsam Jiban and Sadokpam Premjit who beat Hijam Deepak.
The other players who entered into the 6th round with 4 points are Oinam Ningthem who beat Kh Rocky, Elangbam Shashikanta who beat Guruaribam Arosemith Sharma, Khagembam Premchandra who beat Maibam Einstein, H Jogendra who beat Oinam Khelemba, RK Sudhirsana who beat Takhellambam Tennyson, Irom Bit who beat Th Tomba and N Dhaneshwor who beat Ph Rajen.
Sinam Lawrence and Lemba Sougaijam who had also sealed three points in four rounds meanwhile played out a draw to share 1/2 point apiece as Naorem Ojit Meitei and Elangbam Mangal who had secured 2 and 1/2 points in four rounds too settle for a draw to amass 3 points apiece till the end of fifth round.
Longjam Kenedy meanwhile sealed a win against Sinthoiba Ningthemcha to post 3 and 1/2 points in five rounds as Moirangthem Modhusudon beat Nandeibam Jonex, Thongam Nabachandra beat M Rana, Khuraijam Malem beat Soibam Ronald, Maibam Dorendro beat Maisnam Punshiba, Khoirom Bikramjit beat L Malvin, Thoudam Jalesh beat Moirangthem Ranjan, Chabungbam Dinesh beat N Thoungamba, Moirangthem Williamba beat Maibam Yohenba, Elangbam Prichard beat H Malemnganba, Moirangthem Sanjit beat Elangbam Jeakson, Seram Indrajit beat Elangbam Juridgeson, Toijam Bylonta beat Lairenmayum Kanishkar and Leimaram Shyamkishore beat RK Sanghamitra to secure three points.
