2nd Manipur Olympic Games Day 3 : Imphal West sweep gold medals in track cycling, shooting; Imphal East shine in swimming, gymnastics

Imphal, August 28 2022: Imphal West riders dominated the Khuman Lampak Velodrome to amass 14 gold medals including 5 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals in the 2nd Manipur Olympic Games Track Cycling events.

Konthoujam Runabas of Imphal West opened today's account winning gold medal in the men's 4 km individual pursuit with a time of 5:.03.468 as his compatriots Konthoujam Bishan (5:25.017) and Hijam Harish (5:56.025) finished second and third to win silver and bronze.

In the women's 3 km individual pursuit, Naorem Biseshori added gold medal to Imphal West's tally taking 4:27.467 as her compatriots Thokchom Helen (4:31.130) and Yumnam Thaja (4:43.141) settled for silver and bronze.

In the men's 1 km sprint, Thangsabam Chinglensana won Imphal West third gold medal with the best finish of 11.724 seconds as Bishnupur's Salam Sanathoi won the silver with a time of 12.477 seconds and Konsam Pinky Singh of Imphal West won the bronze with a time of 14.355 seconds.

In the women's 1 km sprint, Imphal West's Yumnam Thaja (13.580 sec), Thokchom Helena (13.756 sec) and Naorem Biseshori (14.050 sec) won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.

In the 7 km men's scratch race, Konthoujam Runabas, Konthoujam Bishan and Laishram Sanjoy all of Imphal West sealed the gold, silver and bronze medals.

Shooting : Imphal West top with 8 medals
In the Shooting discipline conducted at Khuman Lampak Shooting Range, Imphal West secured 4 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals to top the tally.

Imphal East with 2 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medals are second and Ukhrul with 2 bronze are third.

In the men's individual 10 m Rifle championship, Davidson Khumbongmayum shot 583 points to win Imphal West the gold medal and Oinam Labish of the same district won silver with a similar score.

K Asish Sharma of the same district bagged the bronze with a score of 582 points.

In the women's 10 m Rifle championship, Stacy Leitanthem of Imphal East bagged the gold medal registering 588 points as Shamurailatpam Tulky of Imphal West (588 pts) and Jyotika Laishram of Imphal East (581 pts) finished second and third.

In the men's individual 25 m Rapid Fire Pistol event, Kunyson Tonambam added another gold medal to Imphal West's tally with a total score of 510 points as Imphal East's Gurumayum Shyamkanhai Sharma (483 pts) and Imphal West's Naorem Khandajit (459 pts) finished second and third.

Imphal West's team comprising Davidson Gurumayum, K Asish and Oinam Labish amassed 1748 points to win the men's team 10 m Rifle as Imphal East (1701 pts) and Ukhrul (1349 pts) settled for the silver and bronze medals.

Meanwhile, Imphal East women's team of Stacy Leitanthem , Personi Bachaspatimayum and Jyotika Laishram gathered 1715 points to clinch the women's 10 m Rifle gold.

Imphal West's team of Naorem Khandajit, Kunyson Tonambam and Kangjam Akanta won the 25 m Rapid Fire Pistol Gold amassing 1378 points as Imphal East team (1365 pts) and Ukhrul team (838 pts) finished second and third.

Swimming : Imphal East remain on top with 17 medals
Imphal East continued to dominate in swimming events with a total of 7 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze medals till second day of the competition and Game's 3rd day.

L Jessica of IE won the 100 m women's backstroke gold with a time of 1 minute and 17.58 seconds as IW's Siddhika Huidrom (1:30.28) and Premika Thounaojam (1:34.88) settled for the silver and bronze medal.

The women's 50 m butterfly event gold went to Dekalu Panmei of IE as she completed the course in 34.53 seconds while K Urvashi of IW (39.11 sec) and Panthoi Devi of IE (43.68 sec) finished second and third.

In the men's 800 m freestyle Belchrish Khoirom clocked 11 minutes 49.84 seconds to win IW a gold medal as L Velenjit of IE won silver with a time of 11 minutes 57.57 seconds and Suranjit Puyam of IW settled for the bronze taking 12 minutes 9.22 seconds.

In the women's 200 m backstroke event, L Jessica of IE won another gold medal with the best timing of 2 minutes 55.03 seconds while IW's Premika Thounaojam (3:25.21) and IE's Panthoi (3:48.89) finished second and third.

Dekalu Panmei won another gold medal for IW finishing first in the 50 m freestyle event for women's with a time of 31.22 seconds as IW's Siddhika Huidrom (33.57 sec) and L Jessica (34.21 sec) won silver and bronze medals.

S Athouba of IW took the men's 50 m freestyle gold, taking just 26.16 seconds to finish ahead of S Punshiba of IE (26.16 sec) and Ksh Debraj of Kakching (28.53 sec) .

In the women's 100 m breaststroke, K Kevashri of IW won the gold taking 1 minute 32.86 seconds while IE's Matilda Laithangbam (1:36.28) and Hatnum Haokip (1:44.10) settled for the second and third place.

Gymnastics : Imphal East rack up 19 medals on first day
Imphal East collected 19 medals including 6 gold, 8 silver and 5 bronze medals to remain on top of Gymnastics tally as Bishnupur followed closely with 6 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.

The day saw A Nelbin winning gold medals in Vaulting Horse and Pommel Horse events and a bronze medal in Horizontal Bar for Imphal East at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium as his compatriot S Ruben won gold medals in men's Roman Rings, Parallel Bars and Floor Exercise events.

Kh Laxman of Bishnupur in the meantime won the Horizontal Bar event gold today.

Oinam Bandana then swept gold medals for Bishnupur in the women's Vaulting Horse, Balancing Beam, U Bars and Floor Exercise events.

Gracemi Pangambam of Imphal East secured silver medals in all these events.

A Nelbin eventually emerged men's all-round champ with a total score of 52.50 pts while Oinam Bandana won the women's all-round gold with 45.80 points in her name.

IW's Peter Naorem (47.65 pts) and IE's S Ruben (46.95 pts) won the men's all round silver and bronze medals while Imphal East's Gracemi Pangambam (43.10 pts) and P Roshini Devi (37 pts) claimed the women's all-round silver and bronze medals.

Boxing : Khoinaijam Sanamacha vs Leimapokpam Rahul in Youth and Elite men's 75 kg final
Khoinaijam Sanamacha of IW will take on Leimapokpam Rahul of Kakching in the Youth and Elite men's 75 kg category gold medal clash.

Sanamacha reached the final beating Goutiankham of Churachandpur in the second semi-final match after L Rahul outlasted Oinam Abhinash of Bishnupur in the other semi-final.

In the 71 kg semi-final clashes, Kakching's Medhajit beat Khundrakpam of Thoubal and Laiphrakpam Chandrabose of Imphal East saw off Chinglemba Laishram of Imphal West.

In the Youth and Elite women's 48 kg semi-final bouts, Bishnupur's Thiyam Apsara overcame Salam Helena of Imphal West and Kakching's Elangbam Thoithoi outlasted Kangpokpi's Tingmila Doungel.

In the 50 kg semi-final bouts, Kayenpaibam Bandana of Imphal West beat Tubur Sampar Merina of Senapati to set up a final date with Kakching's Moirangthem Luxmi who outlasted Ningthoujam Kalpana in another semi-final bout.
