68th State Open Badminton Championship : Bidyasagar Salam, Ksh Maheshwari clinch men, women's singles titles

Imphal, July 28 2024:
Bidyasagar Salam of Imphal West and Ksh Maheshwari of Imphal East clinched the men and women's singles crown in the 68th State Open Badminton Champion-ships that concluded today here at Manipur Badminton Association's indoor stadium in DMU Campus.
Bidyasagar got the better of Hemam Malemnganba of Bishnupur 21-19, 12-21, 21-16 in a keenly contested final match tonight to win the State title.
Earlier in the day, Bidyasagar made his way into the final with an easy 21-14, 21-13 win over Oinam Aimson of Bishnupur in the first semi-final match before Hemam Malemnganba edged out Rishav Ngangom 14-21, 21-9, 21-11 in an all Bishnupur semi-final clash staged later.

Meanwhile, Maheshwari won the women's singles title with a 21-10, 21-10 win over compatriot Konsam Gunjan in the final match today.
Earlier in the day, Maheshwari reached the final with a 21-7, 21-11 win over Angita Naorem in a semi-final clash as Gunjan outlasted Imphal West's Leonie Tayenjam 21-15, 21-16 in another semi-final match.
L Thoungam, K Gunjan win U-17 boys singles title
Lourembam Thoungam of Imphal West emerged the U-17 boys singles champion in the State level tournament as he prevailed 21-15, 21-12 against Rishav Ngangom of Bishnupur in the final today.
Earlier in the day, Thoungam booked his final ticket with a 21-17, 21-18 win over Mongjam Vivek while Rishav completed the final line up with a 22-20, 12-21, 21-12 win over Chirom Bose of Imphal West in the other semi-final match.
On the other hand, Konsam Gunjan of Imphal East pulled off an easy 21-12, 21-16 win over Sapam Chanulembi of Imphal West to claim the U-17 girls' singles crown.
Konsam Gunjan progressed into the final with an 21-11, 22-20 win over Imphal West's L Anjelia while Chanulembi Sapam got the better of compatriot Leonie Tayenjam 21-18, 21-17 .
M Rustam, K Sonakshi seal U-13 boys and girls' titles
Mayanglambam Rustam of Kakching won the boys' U-13 singles title as K Sonakshi of Jiribam bagged the girls' crown today.
Rustam prevailed 21-18, 21-15 over Ng Yaiphaba of Jiribam in the final today to earn the top honour as Sonakshi got the better of Sarungbam Archana of Imphal East 21-7, 21-8 in the girls' title clash.
Earlier in the day, Rustam eased 21-9, 21-7 past Thoihenba Phurailatpam of Imphal West to enter into the final after Ng Yaiphaba edged out Thokchom Yangba 21-19, 16-21, 21-16 .
Meanwhile in a U-13 girls' singles semi-final match staged earlier, Sonakshi defeated Salam Lenika of Imphal East 21-4, 21-4 to set up a final date with S Archana.
Imphal West's pair of N Siamond and Ch Bellarix win mixed doubles title
Imphal West's pair of Ningthoujam Siamond and Chirom Bellarix Devi emerged the mixed doubles champions as they edged past Bpr-Kak pair of Oinam Aimson and M Somibala 21-18, 15-21, 22-20 in the final this afternoon.
M Somibala had earlier claimed the women's doubles title with Naorem Purnima by defeating Imphal West's pair of Chirom Bellarix and Kh Senlina 21-13, 21-14 .
Chirom Bose and Chirom Bellarix also went on to win the U-17 mixed doubles crown by handing Th Hursh and A Lanchenbi a 21-16, 21-14 defeat in an all Imphal West's final later in the day.
Senapati-Spr pair of Kyoveio Vemai and Rishav Ngangom meanwhile notched up the U-17 boys doubles title by defeating IW-Bpr pair of Chirom Bose and Martin Ingudam 21-14, 21-18 .
The IW-IE pair of Sapam Chanulembi and Laishram Nandita on the other hand earned the U-17 girls doubles title with a 21-18, 21-14 win over Imphal West's pair of A Lanchenbi and Ashangbam Devika.
The Kakching duo of Leonard Waikhom and Mayanglambam Rustam in the meantime sealed the U-13 boys doubles title as they overcame the IW-IE pair of Chirom Netcover and L Loyangamba 21-10, 21-17 in the title clash.
The men's doubles title meanwhile went to the Bishnupur pair of Haobijam Rohenkumar and RK Alen who thumped Chirom Vikson and RK Ronald of Imphal West 21-19, 21-19 in the final.
