Imphal, June 07:
There are 54 new cases of leprosy recorded in Manipur during 2007-08 and between April and May of this year alone, there are 7 patients registered, according to W Rajendra medical assistant, District Leprosy Society on Saturday.
The Leprosy Hospital at Chingmeirong in Imphal is functioning with well trained doctors but the infrastructures are in a pathetic condition due to non-repairing compounded with the government's attempt to shift its location to Keirao Wangkhem, he added.
He said that the infected people are mainly from Imphal East and Imphal West districts having 30 patients at the moment.
Rajendra revealed this information while attending a one day awareness programme on leprosy for self help group (SHG) at Thangmeiband in Imphal on Saturday.
