Eleven highest mark scorers of Kangpokpi Assembly constituency in the High School Leaving Certificate examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur were conferred 10th Major Pagin Kipgen Meritorious Award today.
The felicitation function organised by the Major Pagin Kipgen Foundation Charitable Trust, Haipi at Kangpokpi District Council hall was graced by Tribal Development Minister DD Thaisii as chief guest, Hill Areas Committee Chairman Thangminlen Kipgen as president and MLA V Hangkhalian as guest of honour.
Addressing the function, DD Thaisii emphasised on the responsibility of the Government and parents to groom and educate students properly so that they become responsible citizens.
He noted that for those interested in studying it is a good fortune that the field of education has progressed and developed to an unprecedented level.
Though the prizes being distributed were simple, it would certainly help in generating a healthy competition among students.
Thangminlen Kipgen said that the present practice of conferring awards to meritorious students of Kangpokpi area may cover whole Sadar Hills area from next year.
Saying that the Major Pagin Kipgen Charitable Trust is not for a few people but for all the people, Thangminlen said that the trust was set up to educate future pillars of the society.
The meritorious award was instituted to help bring quality education in the State and to encourage young meritorious students.
The award carries cash incentive of Rs 1000, a memento and a certificate each.
