Imphal, June 07:
Ahead of various family welfare programmes scheduled to be taken up in all the districts of the State, a one day orientation training camp was conducted at GM Hall here today with Health and Family Welfare Minister Ph Parijat as chief guest.
Speaking at the occasion, Parijat exhorted all expecting mothers to register themselves at nearest health centres as soon as they conceive.
Although the State is responsible to ensure good health of both mothers and babies, all efforts will go waste if the people fail to take advantage of the schemes taken up by the Government, Parijat said.
Registration of expecting mothers in health centres would certainly help in avoiding possible complications to both mothers and babies, he noted.
Safe delivery of babies depends on precautionary measures taken up in time and timely consultation with doctors along with regular check-up.
To ensure regular check-up, an expecting mother needs to register in a health centre, he said.
Highlighting importance of post-natal care, the Health Minister observed that immunisation of babies help in protecting against six diseases.
As such, husbands and in-laws should encourage expecting mothers to get them registered in health centres.
Observing that there is little interaction among family members on family planning, Parijat called for change of attitude regarding the subject of family planning.
In his presidential speech, Director of Family Welfare Th Biren said that the family planning programme launched today will cover all the districts of Manipur.
Under the programme, the basic purpose of family planning, its importance and its benefits will be discussed, he said.
To reap full benefits of the family welfare programme, people should have right knowledge of the programme, right attitude and put into practice what they learnt about the programme, asserted Dr Th Biren.
Addressing the camp, former Minister Dr M Nara said that family planning is not about birth control alone.
Family planning also encompasses the objective to ensure good health of both mothers and babies, he explained.
The orientation programme organised by the All Manipur Nupi Marup, Imphal City Council under the sponsorship of Family Welfare Services, Manipur was also attended by its president Ibelei and secretary Th Sakhitombi as guests of honour.
Later in the technical session, district extension officer H Anuradha presented a paper on "Role of Family Welfare Programme" while District Public Health Nursing officer, Bishnupur district A Rita spoke on "Mother and Child Health".
